Casinos to Ban Google Glass
Google Glass is a brand new innovation that allows users to immerse themselves in augmented reality. The technology boasts many benefits, but casino operators are wary of Google Glass because it may be used to allow players to cheat.
Cheating is always an important concern in casinos. Operators take strict precautions to ensure that players are unable to manipulate the outcome of any games. This not only protects other players but encourages them to continue gambling, as cheating scandals always result in a loss of business for casino operators.
‘If these eyeglasses were worn during a poker game, they could be used to broadcast a patron’s hand to a confederate or otherwise be used in a collusive manner,’ says David Rebuck of New Jersey’s Gaming Enforcement Division.
He also notes that even if the glasses are not being used for cheating, a player simply wearing the device at a table could compromise the integrity of the game. Other players at the table may begin to believe that there is the potential for cheating or colluding, altering the dynamic of the game and even discouraging players from taking part.
To prevent this from happening, casino operators feel that the best course of action is to ban the technology altogether. At the moment, it is quite easy to tell whether or not a patron is wearing Google Glass, so they can be told to put the item away before entering a casino. However, as the design of future versions becomes more discreet, security will have a difficult time identifying Google Glass.
Google has responded to the concerns that casino operators have about the technology. The pilot program for the device ensures that users and other individuals can share their concerns about Google Glass, and the company will work hard to ensure that they address these issues in order to ensure that it is only used for good.
