Strategy

Here at Online-Slots.co.nz we don’t really like to talk about strategy too much, because at the end of the day Slots are random and there is no cast iron strategy that is going to help you beat the Casino.

However, if you want to get the most from your bank roll here is a list of our top tips that will stand you in good stead.

Only bet what you can afford
Online slots should be great fun, if they aren’t then you should review the reasons why you are playing.

Don’t play too many ‘branded’ / ‘licensed’ slots in an online casino…
What we mean by ‘branded’ or ‘licensed’ slots are the slots that are spin offs from well-known films or comics or other online games… (think Lord of the Rings Slot, Gladiator Slot, Rocky, Marvel comic slots, POPCAP slots such as Bejeweled).
The reason for this is that the casinos will have to pay a royalty to the companies that gave them permission to turn their ‘brand’ into a Slot, this means that the players payout is reduced to pay for it…

Always play a new Slot in demo mode first…
With so many new slots appearing in the online market these days competition is tough to make the slots different, which means we are see more and more functionality and features brought to the table. These are not always very easy to understand, so why pay real money to get to understand them? Always best to ‘try before you buy’…
Try to have around 100 spins in demo mode first, this will give you a flavour of what sort of game you are playing – do you get to bonus round on a regular basis? Do you win on the reels? Or is the game tight?

Understand the frequency and payouts in Bonus Rounds…
After playing a slot for a fair amount of time, you’ll get to know the frequency with which you enter bonus rounds. There will be an average number of spins in each game in which you hit a bonus round…
If you know these then you’ll be a long way to understanding how the game pays out and when to continue playing and when to stop.

Understand the volatility of the Slot you are playing…
Having played the game in demo round for at least 100 spins, you should have got a flavour of the type of game you are playing… Volatility refers to the way in which a slot pays out. Some are not very volatile at all, i.e. they will give you consistent, small wins which will keep your balance up and allow you to play for some time.
However others can be very volatile indeed, you could burn though loads of money playing for a long time without winning anything and suddenly a big win will come your way… Some players like the excitement of a volatile slot, other prefer lots of small wins – know what you enjoy and pick the right game for you.

Don’t play Progressive Slots too much…
Everyone loves the chance to win big on the huge jackpot slots that are out there – life changing amounts of money that we’d all love to scoop one day… However, the likelihood is that you’ll be paying to play…
With every spin you are contributing to the progressive jackpot – generally this means that progressive jackpot slots have lower payout percentages for the player. So have a go, just don’t spend all your time on them.

Research your progressive jackpots…
If you are going to play for a progressive jackpot then at least give yourself a fighting chance – look out for progs that have not been won in a while or are over their average jackpot size – there’s a great website called Jackpot Graphs that can help you with your research.

Don’t be afraid to speak to customer support
If there is anything you don’t understand about a slot or think you’ve not been paid out correctly then give customer support a ring. These days support teams at Casinos are very helpful and want to offer advice and help wherever possible.

Have fun…
We at Online-Slots.co.nz love playing slots online, but we also understand the frustration of not being on a winning run… Chances are if you are chasing losses and not enjoying yourself then it’s probably time to take a break for a while.
