Introduction to Game of Thrones
Join the four great houses of Westeros, House Stark, Baratheon, Lannister and Targaryen as they battle to rule the seven kingdoms and sit on the Iron Throne. With plenty of free spins bonus rounds and even clips from the show, fans will have loads to talk about and enjoy when playing Microgaming’s Game of Thrones online slot.
Fully licensed and authorised by HBO, you’re not stealing any intellectual property with this game either, which is a good thing as the licensing has allowed Microgaming to pack their tribute full of authentic aspects from the show, including the proper logo and title sequence music to fully immerse you in the world George RR Martin and HBO have created for us.
Review / First Impressions
As big fans of Game of Thrones ourselves, we were naturally very excited to check out this properly branded and authorised online slot by Microgaming, and we’re happy to announce the game has not disappointed.
Although payouts maybe weren’t quite as frequent as we might have liked, the epic soundtrack, beautiful illustrations and fun bonus features were plenty to keep us on our toes. We particularly enjoyed the gambling feature, with an authentic looking coin featuring the words “Valar Morghulis” (all men must die) on the tails side. Correctly choose heads or tails on a spin to double your money on any winning combination and unlock a short clip directly from the show: a lovely treat for those in it for more than the money (although the money was also nice!).
Payout Ratio (or RTP) of Game of Thrones Slot
The Return to Player (commonly known as the RTP) of this online slot is between 94 and 95%, meaning that for every $100 wagered, you can expect the game to pay out approximately $94 - $95. Usually, we would expect an online slot machine to offer an RTP of around 95%, so this is a little lower than average, although, of course, individual gameplay will vary.
Game of Thrones Slot Graphics
The graphics in the Game of Thrones slot have quite literally come straight out of the TV show. Enjoy the logo springing to life just the same as the opening title sequence of the popular HBO show alongside symbols featuring the Sigils of the four great houses. You’ll also see the Iron Throne in all its sword-covered glory, plus classic playing card symbols of J - A in a lovely metal design that would look perfectly in place at Winterfell or King's Landing.
The game itself is set in one of the vaults of King's Landing, with the stunning stonework and pillars visible behind the reels. The reels are set on dark iron, possibly reflective of the Iron Throne with the spikes of the swords just visible coming out from behind the reels.
The whole game looks like it could genuinely be taking place within the world of Westeros, and you wouldn’t be overly surprised to see one of the characters (we won’t name any for spoiler purposes) playing this in their spare time as they sit around the castle.
How to Play Game of Thrones Slots
As with any online slot game, the first thing you’re going to need to do to play Game of Thrones is decide on your bet. The bet button sits nicely right in the middle of the bottom of the screen in this game and you can increase or decrease your bet by clicking on the + and - buttons either side or bring up more options by clicking on the word bet.
On the far right of the screen you’ve got your spin button and clicking here will spin the reels once. If you hit a winning combination the option to gamble your winnings will appear above the spin button. This brings you to a page where you need to choose heads or tails on a spinning coin for the chance to double your winnings. If you’re lucky, you can double up to four times, or lose the whole lot on an unlucky spin. The nice thing about this feature is that if you win, not only will you double your prize, but you’ll also get a sneak look at a clip from the TV show.
If you get tired of spinning the reels manually, look to the left of your bet button to find the game’s ‘AutoPlay’ feature. Click on this to have the reels automatically spin, 10, 25, 50 or 100 times, or select your own custom parameters for the autospin function.
The info button is a little more hidden, but you can find it by clicking the small ? symbol in the top right-hand corner of the screen. This will bring up a screen with all the Game of Thrones game info, rules, paytables and more, so you can learn exactly how to play.
Game of Thrones Game Volatility
When playing Game of Thrones, we found this game to offer a medium volatility, meaning that although we hit small wins fairly frequently, those larger prizes were a bit more elusive and hard to come by. That said, with the gamble feature a small win can easily turn into a pretty decent prize if your luck’s in!
How To Win at Game of Thrones Slots
Win at Game of Thrones slots by matching three or more symbols along a payline starting at the far left reel. The lower paying playing card symbols will award between 2x and 100x your stake for combinations of three to five matching symbols.
The higher paying symbols include the Sigils of the four great houses of Westeros. Five Targaryen symbols will award you with 300x your stake, five Stark symbols are going to get you 400x your stake, five symbols featuring the Lannister Sigil are going to pay out 500x your stake and five Baratheon stags will give you a massive 600x your stake.
The Wild symbol is the Game of Thrones logo. This symbol can substitute for any symbol other than the Scatter and is also the highest paying symbol in the game, where a payline featuring five Wilds will win you a huge 1,000x your stake.
To get the most out of your winnings, if you’re feeling brave, you could choose to gamble any prize on the flip of the coin. Correctly guess heads or tails to double your winnings, but get it wrong and you lose the lot.
The Scatter symbol is the prize itself, the Iron Throne. Find three or more Iron Throne symbols on a spin to unlock the game’s free spins bonus rounds and choose from the four houses for special features exclusive to each house.
Game of Thrones Bonus Features
When you trigger the Game of Thrones bonus round, you’ll be asked to choose between House Baratheon, House Lannister, House Stark or House Targaryen. Each house has its own special features with unique numbers of free spins and multipliers, plus stacked Wilds and the ability to re-trigger the feature by finding three more Iron Throne symbols in each game.
House Baratheon: The House Baratheon free spins bonus round will treat you to 8 free spins with a fixed 5x multiplier for the whole round, plus 3-stacked Baratheon Sigil symbols.
House Lannister: Choose House Lannister for 10 free spins with a 4x multiplier, plus 4-stacked Lannister Sigil symbols.
House Stark: Side with Winterfell and you’ll receive 14 free spins with a 3x multiplier and 5-stacked Stark Sigil symbols to maximise your winnings.
House Targaryen: Finally, join the Kings and Queens of Dragons for 18 free spins with a 2x multiplier and 6-stacked Targaryen Sigils.
Game of Thrones Slot Biggest Possible Win
The top prize available in Game of Thrones is a massive 20,250x your stake with a big win in one of the bonus rounds, although more reasonable 20-30x wins are going to crop up far more frequently than this massive prize.
Free Spins on Game of Thrones Slot
The free spins feature is triggered by finding three Iron Throne Scatter symbols and selecting one of the great houses to represent you. The house you choose will dictate how many free spins you’re given and what multipliers will be applied to the bonus game.
