So first of all we had Ocean’s Eleven, the original heist movie starring rat pack regulars like Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr, who went to Las Vegas intent on robbing a casino. Then we had the remake, starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. Now we even have an all-female version. And not to be left out, Elk Studio has made its own tribute title. Only this one is scaled down, so instead of Ocean's Eleven we get Lake’s Five. What’s happened is that cute little Mike the Monkey has been kidnapped and dragged kicking and screaming to the skyscraper owned by Mr. Romano (it has a big “R” on the top, so you can’t miss it). He hasn’t been seen since! Can you help Lake’s Five to save him? Oh, and by the way, they’re going to carry out a heist at the same time. After, all everyone knows that Romano keeps a lot of money up there - up to 216,000 golden coins that could be yours. To get the money, you’re going to need to collect golden keys to unlock special features and free spins and to pick up Heist bonuses. You’ll find wilds walking between the reels and climbing wilds moving between the rows. Then there are golden mats. Sorry? Mats? Yes, mats - it all makes sense when you’re playing. It has to be said, you have an impressive team to help you - Pete the Parrot, Alf the Alligator, Elmer the Elephant and Genie the Goldfish. Best of all, there’s Mr. Lake, who appears to be a moose. Oh, wait a minute - he’s an Elk! From Elk studios - doh! Read our full review below.
Wilds Go Walkabout
In this Elk game, two scatter symbols will trigger the wild response feature. The scatters turn into wilds, and the reel that contains the wilds moves down one notch every time you re-spin. Lakes Five has walking wilds, sticky wilds and climbing wilds.
Three scatter symbols turn into keys and start “The Heist” bonus game with ten free spins. Every added key when the bonus gaming is running gives you an extra free spin. Once you’ve got three keys on reels 1, 3 and 5, the climbing, walking and sticky wilds get unlocked. The climbing wild moves up one row every time you spin. The walking wild moves one reel to the right every time you spin. The sticky wild does what you’d expect - it sticks around for the rest of the spins.
The game has two modes: normal and bonus mode. You can only trigger re-spins when you’re in normal mode. The re-spins end when there’s only one wild left or when scatter number three appears.
Wild symbols that go across each other’s paths and end up in the same position trigger a multiplier for that specific spin. To get the wild bonanza, you need the sticky wilds, which bring in the multipliers and the mats of golden wilds.
Go for Gold - Goldfish, That Is
Genie the goldfish is the big payer in this game - get five of this gorgeous, pouting pescatarian and 1,000 coins are on their way. Next biggest payer is Pete the parrot, then Mike the Monkey, Alf the Alligator and Elmer the Elephant. Bottom of the paytable are the goldfish bowl and the medical bag.
In Lakes Five, there are 178 winning lines across the four rows and five reels. There are 12 bet levels, and each bet is equivalent to 100 coins. Bets are paid from left to right, and only the highest paying win line pays out.
This slot has an interesting set of betting strategies you can use. These allow you to select the way you want to bet by choosing one of four styles.
The “Optimiser” bets a percentage of however many credits you have left. This means the amount you are betting adjusts itself to your remaining balance.
The “Leveller” raises your bet by two levels if you lose five times in succession. In other words, you can bet more if you haven’t won for a while. If you lose five more times, the bet will be raised by two levels again. This feature resets when you win.
The “Booster” is a variant of the Leveller. It raises your bet by one level when you lose. When you get to four levels above your original bet, it stops. It too resets after a win.
The “Jumper” raises your bet by one level after every winning round until you get to four levels above your original bet, and it too resets after a loss.
To use the betting strategies, you’ll need to choose your base level bet, then choose your strategy, then press Spin. However, bear in mind that the strategies can’t change the long-term Return to Player (RTP), which is 96.3%, as is the case with all Elk games.
Smart Enough to Know What Device You’re Using
Lake's Five uses the latest web technologies, and the game can tell whether you’re using a mobile, tablet or desktop - it then adjusts to give you the best gaming experience for your device. Elk recommend that you use 1600x900 resolution if you’re playing this slot on a desktop PC. If you need to scale it, use 16:9 as the ratio.
There are several settings, including speed of play, which you can use to adjust your play. You can turn game sounds and the music track on or off as needed. The music is a lot less annoying than on many slots - cool piano lounge tunes that go with smooth Mr. Lake.
Elk have included a reality check function to stop you spending too long playing the game - although on a free slot, all you’re losing is time! You can decide to have a reality check after 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours.
This is an entertaining production with a great story. The play is fairly simple, to be honest, but the characters are so engaging that it’s great fun to play.
